CHINESE CELEBRATE VICTORY[]

About 500 Chinese met at the New Zealand Chinese Association Hall at 7 Allen Street to celebrate the Allied victory over Japan and the end of the war. Various aspects involved, in the struggle and duties implied in the victory were stressed by speakers, including Mr. Feng Wang, the Consul General, Mr. Yue Jackson, Consul, Mr; Sze Zau-Tsung, Consul, Mr. Lai Shin Chen, Vice Consul, and Mr. William Kwok, Mr. William Wah, the Rev. Mr. Y. S. Chau, Mr. Joe King and Mr. Ngan Kai Chong (the five members of the Council of Chairmen of the All New Zealand Chinese Conference).

After the speeches an enjoyable programme of entertainment was arranged by Mr. K. P. Law, delegate from Hawke's Bay. This included a humorous impersonation of Tojo by Mr. Y. H. Yee, of Palmerston North, and community singing led by Mr. George Ting and the Chinese Progress Club.

In his address as chairman of the meeting Mr. Kwok stressed the importance of reconstruction now that Allied victory is achieved.

Mr. Palmer, of the National Savings Office, one of the European guests, stressed the strong support the Chinese community gave to all patriotic appeals throughout the struggle.
