ENGAGEMENT PARTY.[1]

Recently Mr and Mrs Joe King Young, Upper Hutt, were host and hostess at the Brown Owl, to an engagement party of their daughter Molly, to Merlin, son of Mr and Mrs Wong Shee Pays, Hastings.

A splendid evening was enjoyed in dancing and humorous items and the supper, European and Chinese was the least of a splendid evening.

On the guests entering the cabaret, they were greeted by Mr and Mrs Joe King Young, Molly and Merlin.

Mr John MacCulloch made an excellent M.C., and was ably assisted by Frank Burgess and his orchestra.

Among those present were the Chinese Consul-General, Mr Tern Fang-Ching and his wife, Chinese Consul and Mrs W. H. Wu, Dr. and Mrs T. H. Law, Mr and Mrs T. S. Ma, Mrs Les Joe (Tamarunui), Mrs T Hoe (Wanganui), Mrs Joe Chuen (Huntley [sic]), Mr and Joe How Pay, Mr and Mrs Tong Joe, Mr Jim Gow, Mr and Mrs R. C. Kum, Mr and Mrs Peter Joe, Mr and Mrs Charlie Joe, Mr and Mrs G. L. Williams, Dr. and Mrs L. Taylor, Mr and Mrs R MacCulloch, Mr and Mrs R Kimmins, Mr and Mrs J. Ainsworth, Mr and Mrs S. Williams, Mr and Mrs H Phillips, Mr and Mrs H. McCrea, Mr and Mrs J. Walker, Mr and Mrs A. Smith, Mr and Mrs C Smith, Mr (&) Mrs W.
