LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.[1]

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28

The Council met at 11 a.m.

THE CHINESE QUESTION.

Mr G. M. Waterhouse brought up the report of the managers of the Free Conference on the Bill. The report was as follows :— "The managers of the Conference on the Chinese Immigrants Act Amendment Bill have the honour to report that they have agreed to the following resolution, viz :—That clause 2 as inserted by the Legislative Council be struck out, and that the following words be inserted in lieu there-of :— ‘The term Chinese in the said Act and in this Act does not include Chinese naturalised in New Zealand;' and farther that the original clauses 10, 11, and 12 and the schedule be struck out as proposed by the Legislative Council."

The report was agreed to.

The Council adjourned at 1 p.m.
