Two Chinese orphan girls from Hong Kong at Wellington Airport. They are Marie Therese Malpas (left) and Rose Marianne Pattle. Photograph taken 4 January 1963 by an Evening Post staff photographer.^[1]

The children in this image were among ten who arrived in Wellington on 4 January 1963. Another 40 were due on the 5th. The children were all from Hong Kong where they were chosen by various church organisations. Their journey was sponsored by the Catholic Immigration Committee, and the St Vincent de Paul Society, whose members had worked for 18 months to bring them to New Zealand.^[1]

The entry of the children to New Zealand had been approved by the Government in 1962.^[1]

All of the children had adopted parents in New Zealand. ^[1]
