MADDOCKS HEAVILY FINED[]

Blenheim, Jan. 9.[]

A sequel to the sensational stabbing affray in the pit lobby at His Majesty’s Theatre on the night of the 5th inst. took place at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when an elderly Chinaman named Chow Lee was charged with stabbing Percy Maddock in several places with a pocket knife. Maddock was also charged with assaulting the Chinaman by striking him on the neck.

The magistrate deprecated the use of the knife, but took into consideration that the Chinaman was peeling apples at the time he was assaulted by Maddock, and that he was grossly and repeatedly provoked by Maddock who struck him a number of times, finally knocking him down, apparently without cause. The Chinaman was acquitted.

The magistrate strongly condemned the action of Maddock all through the affair, and fined him £10 and £2 5s costs.
