BY CHINESE FRUITERER

MAORIS (Sic) BUY ORANGES

Yee Chong, a Chinese fruiterer, was charged before Mr L. G. Keid, S.M., at the Masterton Police Court this morning with trading on Sunday, 11th November.

Constable Phillips said that on Sunday, 11th November, he saw some Maoris (sic) in Yee Chong's shop. He waited a few minutes, and a Maori woman came out of the back entrance with a boy. When he asked them what they had in their parcels, they would not say. They said the parcels had been bought the night before. Yee Choug admitted selling 2s worth of oranges to the Maoris (sic), and admitted he had done wrong and was "welly sorry."

Yee Chong explained that he had only sold the oranges, and had nothing to do with the other parcels. Defendant was fined 10s and 7s costs.----
