FIRES By Telegraph [UNTIED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Pahiatua. This Day. A fire broke out in a block of buildings owned by Mrs. Bond, Pungaroa, at 4 o'clock this morning. Three shops, occupied by Thomas, bootmaker, George, tailor, and Tan Kee, grocer, were entirely destroyed, and those of McBain, watchmaker, Tosswell, solicitor, and the Government Survey Office were saved by the exertions of the Fire Brigade. Everything was moved from the latter buildings. It is supposed the fire started at George's. Insurances — McBain, £50 on building, and Tosswill and the Survey Office (owned by Tosswill), £2OO, in the London, Liverpool and Globe, and the contents of Tosswill's premises for £75 in the same office. McBain stock was insured for £100 in the Standard, and the Alliance has a risk of .£100 on George's stock. Tan Kee's insurances are not known. The insurance on the buildings destroyed amounts to £150, but the office is uncertain.
