On 1 May 1900, the Evening Post published in the Advertisement section, a plea from fruit shop owners Wong Heong, Chow Fong, Ngan Lee, L. A. Pat, Yee Wah, and Yung Kee, that people not judge all Chinese run fruit shops on the basis of the poor sanitary conditions of found at one Chinese owned fruit shop.[1]
